    As a local resident, you may be curious to know what King's Day 2022 in Maastricht will look like. It can also be useful to stay informed about the preparations and what they mean for you. King Willem-Alexander will celebrate his birthday on Wednesday 27 April in Maastricht. The king and his family members will walk through the city centre from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm. On the route, we will show the royal family what our city and region have to offer through a surprising and versatile programme. The programme is in line with the theme of King’s Day 2022: ‘Leef Maastricht!’ (Live Maastricht). Which, not coincidentally, also means 'dear Maastricht' in Maastricht dialect.

Traffic restrictions

A celebration like King's Day can't take place without traffic restrictions. To make sure that everything goes as planned, part of the city centre will be closed to motorised traffic from Tuesday morning 26 April until Wednesday evening 27 April. Motorised vehicles will not be able to enter or exit the city centre. 

Getting there

We are expecting the city to be a hive of bustling activity on King's Day. Festivities and large numbers of visitors should be expected in the city centre starting from Tuesday evening (King’s Day Eve). Travel to and in Maastricht will be more difficult. Think ahead before you visit Maastricht. Keep an eye on the Maastricht Bereikbaar website for more information.
